WinBolo Terms
:D Each new player asked one day : "What means 'ffa' ?", "What means 'gg' ?".
FireIce in his (regreted) web site made with the help of some other players a "WinBolo Terms" page. When I started WinBolo, in october 2004, I saved the content of his page in a Word document (:( Sorry for the Crédits, I didn't save them). FI gives me the authorization to post the content of the page here : thanks, it's a great thing !
I hope that it will help many new players. We have, too, the possibility to complete this list with new terms used but not mentioned in FI's list... :)
Winbolo Terms used before the game starts
13 allied: This means according to the player’s list the first and third player listed are allied.
13 v 24: This means the first and third player will ally up to battle against the second and fourth player.
1v1 or 1x1: A game with one player fighting against another.
2v2 or 2x2: Same as above, but two on two.
calling: Someone is about to call go usually with" ......................go".
ffa: Free-For-All. When no teams are formed and everyone is against each other. Teams may (or may not depending on conditions discussed) form later on but it is on an ad-hoc basis.
lock: Disallow anymore players from entering the game. You can lock the game by going to the "WinBolo" menu, and unchecking the "Allow new players".
ne, se, sw, nw: Respectively, NorthEast, SouthEast, NorthWest, SouthWest. Describes where on the map you are located. Used while organizing teams at the beginning of the game. Also used during the game to denote that an ally needs help there.
n, s, w, e: North, South, West, East. Used to describe which side your team will start, as in "my team n" meaning my team will start north. Also used: "go n", as in go north.
o/e: Odd numbered players against even numbered players.
o/i: Means out/in. With four players it will be 14 vs 23.
t/b: Top numbered players against the bottom numbered players. i.e., if there are 6 players, player 1, 2, and 3 ally against player 4, 5, and 6.
Winbolo Terms used during the game
dec, or dc or decoy: Your ally wants either you to decoy or he’s going to decoy for you. Check out Puppy Love’s guide at www.lgm.com/bolo/guides on decoying.
dd: Means Double Decoy.
gg: Denotes Good Game. You believe the game is over. If you’re playing a game and you’re losing, it’s polite and expected to say "gg" before you leave. It’s common also to say "gg" after you win the game.
hold: This means stop what you are doing and stand still immediately. Of course, if you are in range of enemy pb, get out of range, but just enough not to be hit. This is used to call for a timeout. The two main accepted reasons to call a hold are: 1) when a player has the lgm "panic" bug (lgm is inside the tank but not coming out) in Winbolo. This person calls the hold, then disconnects and rejoins the game 2) When an ally has disconnected from the game and their teammates are waiting for him to come back. On a hold, do not pick up dead pb, do not farm, do not move, and do not pass go.
ne, se, sw, nw, c: Usually denotes that your ally needs immediate help in that section of the map, with c denoting the center. Most of the time it means there’s dead pills there to be picked up. If you’re not urgently needed where you are, hurry there.
km: Kill Me
nm: I have no man (builder)
switch: Switch sides with your ally usually in 2x2.
Other WinBolo terms
Base Rape: Killing a lot of your opponent’s bases in relative quick succession, leaving a lot of bases with low armor and supply.
Box: To trap someone with blocks.
Double Take, Triple Take: Taking 2 or 3 red pills at the same time.
Ghost: A player who appears to still be in game, but is actually disconnected
Heated or Angry Pillbox: A pb firing at a very fast rate. This happens when they have been recently shot at, or one of the allied base close by has been shot at by the enemy.
IBL: Internet Bolo League.
IRC: Internet Relay Chat, usually referring to channel #winbolo on irc.winbolo.us. A place where you chat with other fellow WinBoloers to set up games, talk strategy, and get help.
Lag: Delay in a game, which is usually caused by either the server, latency of players, or distance between players, or number of players.
LGM (Little Green Man): The affectionate term for the builder.
Macbolo: The term used for the original version of bolo that was originally written by Stuart Cheshire for Macs. This is used to distinguish it from Winbolo made by John Morrison, which is a close clone of bolo.
PillBox War/Pillbox Line: A set each of 2-3 or more opposing pillboxes. Each team is trying to kill the opponent’s pbs to take them while keeping their line intact.

Strip Mining: To lay a lots of mines concentrated in an area, usually the opponent's territory.
Tarmac: A location on the map with a continuous block of road built.
Vet: As in Bolo Vet. A player who has played MacBolo before playing WinBolo. Usually applied toward those who played on the internet and developed and thus developed a certain amount of skill before retiring from MacBolo or switching to WinBolo.
Vulture: When you steal a pillbox that your opponent was attempting to kill. This can occur when you are hiding in the trees and make a run to capture a pb that your opponent killed. It can also happen that when your opponent kills a pb in the open and then turns to avoid the remaining few shots from the pb while you drive and pick up the pb.
