So, with all this outcry over what is or what is not cheating,
what do y'all think about point pushing?
Here are a couple of examples of what Ren does to garner enough points to regain the #1 spot when he falls from it:

This sort of thing is a permaban offense on battlenet.
And this guy is an op?
Your thoughts, please.
i dont think we take the points as serious as u do. at least i dont. just because your name is at a high rank dont mean your the best. to me the points scale is off anyway.
I'm not an expert on WBN scores but I believe you gain points by beating players with higher rankings.
Also, a typical way of killing the game after someone joins and jumpstarts is to take all the bases rather than killing it in IRC.
Here\'s a closer look at the situation.
After a loss to DS, Ren dropped all the way down to #5.
Ren then won numerous times in succession against DS, but because
of the point disparity between the two, every victory gained him only
a few points, while the defeat knocked off about 40. After his series with
DS was over, Ren had managed to claw his way back to #2, but was still
some points shy of the top spot.
Argh! Not #1!
So what happens next?
Syracuse pops in, grabs a base, and is done for the day.
This is not some jumpstarting noob. Since he was #11 at the time,
the win hands Ren about 20 points. Yes! Back to #1 again!
Maybe you feel the rankings are just for fun, but clearly Ren
is serious about doing anything it takes to keep being rated #1.
Truly hilarious. And you want to form your code of ethics
based on what this guy thinks?
I'd consider being #1 on a little-known text-based internet game mildly and temporarily interesting at most, but to maintenance pill capture and ranking stats using bogus methods is evidence of time spent poorly indeed.
Ren has nothing to do with the IRC or WBN policy/code of ethics.
And unless the game pushed you onto a base after joining, you are a jumpstarting noob when you join a game, take a base and leave, then wonder why the other player took the rest of the bases when the base you took didn't revert back to neutrality due to a game bug (from what I saw in that text log). Most experienced players would already know this, since we wait until each player in the game sees the starting indicator ("calling.....go") before grabbing bases.
Another view is that Ren saw your odd jumpstarting as the start of the game and started playing, since again the base didn't revert back to uncaptured.
Or maybe he wants the points, so what?
i recall ren doing this before a long time ago, but it was for pill count and tank kill count. i can hardly see how killing a game because one base is taken is "cheating" looks to me like homeboy took a base and quit the game because he didnt want to 1x1 ren. so, ren then killed the game by the only way possible without killing it on irc, and thats takeing all the bases.
hood's right. just leave it be. no big deal to me, u must have something against ren. if so then just get added to the list. other then that no one really cares.
REN IS SYRACUSE.
Him and spin pulled a big gag during the last fermat tournament.
Rens known for doing this in the past.
It can't be helped.
Ranking on the .net site doesn't really matter.
Whatever.
Some people seem to think this is not really a big deal.
Here\'s why it is.
Ren is the top ranked player and a channel op.
Do you not think that his opinions regarding how the game \"should\"
be played carry a lot of weight, particularly with newer players?
Not to be overly melodramatic, but this is corruption at the highest
echelons of our little winbolo village.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, point pushing is when
a player or players get together and deliberately hand out free wins
to \"push\" points to one account.
Syracuse has played exactly two recorded games in over a month.
In each instance, he played against Ren, grabbed a base, and after
being so overwhelmed by this arduous expenditure of effort, withdrew
from the battlefield, leaving Ren with free points.
How much more blatant does it need to be?
Keep in mind: when people who do this activity are discovered on
battlenet and other networks, they are dealt with the same way
maphackers and infinite money hack users are.
This is not a vendetta against one particular person. It is a call for action
against players who are cheaters. If speedhackers offend your sense
of justice, then you should be as equally offended by this.
If Inuyasha and his band of cheating hooligans decided to make a
concerted point push to the top, it would take them a couple of hours.
What would you think then? Would you still feel indifferent?
Where do you draw the line in the sand?
look dude, i dont know who u are, nor do i really care. what i do know is you are takeing this way to seriously. have u noticed the only one that post on this thread really worried about this is u. this is a little community, with a bunch of the same old people and the occasional new guy. it will never be as huge as whatever battle forum your talking about. we all know ren and we all know he can be a penis. but, no one really gives a shit. so how bout u concentrate on looseing sleep on the real things in life and not some stupid internet game.
maybe like, makeing rent, getting a good job, passing school. thats the kinda shit u should be worried about. not how meny points ren gets for killing 2 games and grabing 32 bases.
this shall be my last post on this subject. because im just fuleing your anal grasp on how the points are distributed on this super important point scale. :D
as people have previously mention, the .net point system is invalid. It takes a closed point system and implements it into a system that allows for infinite points. The type of system being used is not designed for this sort of useage. We've ignored .net points for as long as we can remeber. If ren wants to be on the top of the list, he can fly at it. He's just wasting his time.
Min
I can't believe I was mentioned in this thread... time to retire now :)
Don't worry guys, cheater has a life behind winbolo. I think when you hit roughly 600 wins you pretty much deserve to be #1, who cares if i did a jump from rank 2 to 1. whoop-dee-doo.
I'm probably half your age and can move on with my life
yaddamean,
:D omfg, thats priceless. im still laughin my ass off on this.
That is pretty funny.
But the point system is faulty, no one cares whose number 1, and the truth of it all is that there are really only a handfull of people who can beat ren consitantly anyways so its not like he wouldnt have gotten near or to the top anyways. Besides everyone above me on the list cheats, im supposed to be number 1. cheating bastards.
