Should I bother? (new player)

Well I haven't played Bolo for like 10 years and when I did it was on a Macintosh. I was pretty good but I would gather I would be awful now if I tried. Should I bother giving the game a try? I read a bunch of wierdness talking about IRC and Policy and now I'm not so sure it's worth the effort?

Only thing I can say about that is .... play if you enjoy the game. If you don't enjoy the game.... why bother?

I'd say whatever weirdness exists here pales in comparison to the general oddity known as our Internet and besides, who cares? If you love the game, play it.

I would recommend not returning to Winbolo, at least not until we've dealt with our Acro infestation.

I quit for 10 years and came back to it too - I was terrible at first, but as with anything it has a steep initial learning curve.

For all of my raising of issues concerning the policy, overall: things are run very well in the irc channel and the games run smoothly. There are certainly heated debates and different perspectives but the level at which you choose to engage these is up to you. Some people just join to play, others to chat, and still others debate the rules, etc... I like to debate issues (as you'll see if you scan the forums) and I will confront ops head-on - other people stay out of it, follow the fairly straightforward rules and have no problems an fun playing. So, that being said: bolo is fun, and if you don't want the drama, you can play without it!

join irc late nights and pm me for 1x1, or 2x2 or whatever. 75% of the time on and will play

Don't play, go buy WoW and Burning crusade, start a horde and come play with me on Mal'Ganis

no, roll up on Ursin or Darkspear, Alliance and horde (with respect).

But if you don't want to play, you can always just idle for a few years, play a game or two over that span...it's not unheard of.
