WaterBolo 0.99.2
________________
Objective:
The inspiration for this game is the open water joust. The type of game
where killing is rampant and mistakes are costly. The only bad thing
about this type of game is that aside from the kill/death ratio, there is
no "real" objective. WaterBolo attempts to fill the gaps by adding the
element of team strategy and a scoring system.
The Game:
Well... It's WaterBolo. The playing field is completely made up of deep
sea. On either side of the map is a 7x2 strip of tarmac that makes up
the "goal". Grab the pill and build it on the opponent's strip and the
team gets a point.
The Start:
A dead pill is placed in the middle of the map. Each team will line up on
either of the two rows of start squares. Team captains will determine a
side to defend and leave the line to claim the bases on their side. When
the tanks return from claiming the bases, the game will begin by each tank
destroying the opposite tank.
Scoring:
Behind the tarmac on each side are eight bases. At the beginning of the
game, each side will take possesion of their respective eight bases.
When a team scores (by successfully building the pill on the opponent's
tarmac), the scorer, should 1) Kill the pill, 2) Kill one of the opponent's
bases. This way, the team that loses all of their bases first will lose
the game. Shallow water is provided for exit with the pill.
Putting the pill back in play:
After a team has scored and the pill has been destroyed, the scoring
team must line up against the back wall of their side. When the pill
is put back into play (the offense takes possesion of the pill), the
defense can then move into the playing field.
Goaltending:
Since a tank sitting on the tarmac would make scoring impossible, this
must be considered illegal. The only time that a tank may move onto its
own tarmac is pursuit of an enemy tank. ie. when a tank moves onto the
tarmac AFTER an opposing tank.
The Powerplay:
In the interest of the LGM (there's enough LGM killing in Bolo),
"Roughing the Builder" will be penalized heavily. If an LGM is killed
AFTER a pill is placed, the offending tank will be penalized. Killing
an LGM BEFORE the pill is placed will be allowed. An immediate change
of possession takes place and the game proceeds. However, in the case
of a penalty, the offending tank must leave the playing field out to
a remote pill in sea, where it will be sunk and be returned to the
playing field. These pills can be found directly east and west of the
respective exits. Note: The penalized tank leaves the field from its
opponents side when its team takes possesion of the pill.
Additional Notes:
It is difficult to make a game balanced enough that it will be enjoyable
time and time again. It is even more difficult to determine if the game
will be playable without play testing it.... So, be the guinea pigs...
